Creating pathways to financial independence.

Stable housing creates the breathing room people need to plan, grow, and pursue long-term goals.

Through career advancement services and direct cash assistance for single mothers, we support people as they pursue higher incomes, meaningful work, and greater financial independence.

With stable housing in place, residents can turn more of their attention toward employment, education, and increasing their income.

Increasing income strengthens long-term housing stability while creating new possibilities for individuals and families. Project Home supports residents in pursuing the career paths that are right for them through financial coaching, career coaching, English-language instruction, online certifications, driver’s education support, and connections to employers in high-demand fields such as healthcare and manufacturing.

For single mothers, the path to financial stability can be especially difficult. In Maine, while single mothers lead 22% of families with children, they make up 51% of families living at or near poverty. Many face the combined pressures of high housing and childcare costs, lower-wage or part-time employment, and chronic financial stress. Through Project Home Trust, single mothers receive one year of direct cash assistance alongside coaching, peer support, and community—providing greater financial breathing room as they work toward their own goals.

Building on a foundation of stability.

Ending the cycle of poverty.

“Without cash assistance from the Trust program each month, I truly believe I would have lost my kids. I couldn’t keep up with their basic needs before – things like clean clothes and proper hygiene. The support [of Trust] eased my stress, kept our family together, and even gave us joy again. It definitely made a big difference in our lives.”
